Advisory
No Immediate Flood Threat in Ravi & Sutlej Rivers
This clarification is issued with reference to warning appearing in media and panic created at local level especially about impending flood in Ravi.
The data collected about the Indian dams on Ravi, Sutlej and Beaus Rivers indicate that these dams are not yet filled to their capacity and further no flood producing strong monsoon rainy system is in sight in the next few days, as such we may not expect that India would release sudden flood water in these rivers in the next 5-10 days at least.
However, we may need to be watchful in the remaining period of monsoon season especially for Jhelum & Chenab.

2nd Flood Warning for Sindh
2nd flood wave has almost reached at Guddu (evening of 14th August 2010) and inflows at Guddu have started rising. The peak discharge at Guddu is expected to reach 10-11 lacs cusecs because almost 3.1 lac cusecs are continuously being added in Indus flow from Chenab River. It may be a sustained flood peak for 2-3 days at Guddu and similarly at Sukkur.
Further, it is feared that water poundage and back flow around Sukkur from 1st flood wave and the arrival of 2nd flood wave can create extreme pressure on Sukkur barrage and other irrigation infrastructure around.
