Introduction
The importance of research in climate and environmental sciences has gained far more priority in the era of global warming. Due to rise in temperature, the physical processes have been taking place at a much faster rate than the past which results in extreme climate variability embedded with extreme weather events. Keeping in view the emerging scenarios and to meet the challenges of weather and climate prediction, Pakistan Meteorological Department had established a research and development division in 2003. At present, there are more than 20 researchers undertaking research in different disciplines. Research and Development Division is split in to following units:
- Seasonal Prediction
- Climate Change & Modeling
- Crop Modeling & Pollen Monitoring
- Numerical Modeling
- Glacier Monitoring and Snow Research
Pakistan Journal of Meteorology is a periodical published on bi-annual basis,
Dr.Ghulam Rasul, Director General PMD is Chief editor and Mr. Akram Anjum, Chief Meteorologist, is editor of the journal with a diverse panel of experts as board of Advisors. The journal published its first issue in 2004 and since then regular publications is maintained (list of issues) with a net-version available to everyone.
